God’s gift was not a spirit of timidity, but thr Spirit of power, and love, and self-control. In other word, Christians aren’t weaklings. Christianity is a religion of guts. I’m not saying that Christianity is not for weaklings: it’s the best religion for weaklings, and that’s why its a religion of guts. Because it take some courage to discover and acknowledge: I am weak. I need help. I am totally dependent on God. Christianity is the religion of guts because it is also constantly challenging us to grow up, to take responsibility, and to change. This is not because God is a nag: but because he loves us, and knows us better than ourselves, and is constantly helping us go beyond the narrow limits we are always imposing on ourselves on how much we can take and what we are capable of. This is one reason Christianity is an excellent antidote to one of the biggest temptations and sins of our time: cowardice. God’s gifts help us face and live the truth: and there is no greater courage than that. This is why I am reminding you now to fan into a flame the gift that God gave you. Let us rechoose to do that today by spending 10 minutes in prayer every day.
