His throne was a blaze of flames, its wheels were a burning fire. A stream of fire poured out, issuing from his presence. A thousand thousand waited on him, ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him.
This is the Church: glorious Fire, of the heart of God. This is what we are part of, who we are, where we are going, and what we are becoming. While its true that on earth it is full of sinners who make mistakes, sometimes big ones, and doesn’t always look that great, today’s reading is like a mirror: we gaze into it and see our reflection. Far more captivating and powerful and full of light than we had thought. So let us rejoice today, with the Archangels and all the hierarchy of the communion of saints, that we are so lucky, so blessed, to be part of this Beauty itself, this warmth and source of life, whatever we feel, whatever we’re doing, wherever we go, surrounded by the love and presence and counsel of the Trinity and all the angels and saints.
